The Karnataka State Women's Development Corporation is planning to introduce a micro credit scheme for the benefit of the women street vendors.
According to Ms Sarojini Bharadwaj, Chairperson of the corporation, “the scheme titled ‘Jeevansathi' will be a pilot project introduced in Mysore, Shimoga and Gadag districts from this year. Based on the finding, the scheme will be extended to other districts.”
The corporation has earmarked Rs 2 crore for this pilot project wherein micro credit amounting from Rs 5,000 to 10,000 would be provided to the women street vendors. A survey to identify the women street vendors was on progress. While 475 women street vendors were identified in Mysore, the survey would begin shortly in Gadag. In Shimoga, the difficulty was being faced by the surveying staff as many street vendors have been provided alternative arrangements, she added.
