Having ruled the milk and dairy products market in Delhi and NCR for long, Mother Dairy has now decided to expand its presence in other parts of the country within the next 2-3 years.
“We are planning to strengthen our product range in the southern and western markets,” Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetable Pvt Ltd Managing Director, Mr Shiva Nagarajan, told PTI.
There is a plan to set up a factory in Mumbai, he said, adding that from there the efforts will be made to increase the footprint to Bangalore and Chennai.
Set up in 1974, Mother Dairy is a wholly owned subsidiary of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) of India. With Rs 5,200 crore in value this financial year, Mother Dairy is growing at about 28 per cent annually.
Mother Dairy collects around 60 lakh litre of milk daily from the farmers of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
The company has over 1,200 exclusive booths in Delhi and NCR (National Capital Region). In addition, it runs 350-375 Safal outlets to vend out vegetables and fruits.
It sells token milk through 3,000 shops, which also includes the insulated carts that reaches far-flung areas in Delhi and NCR.
Mr Nagarajan said efforts are on to expand operations in Uttar Pradesh.
“In UP we are working in partnership with Pradeshik Cooperative Dairy Federation to reach out to a larger section of people,” he said.
