The Maharashtra government will soon come out with a new industrial policy for the State. The policy is expected to give special treatment to the small and medium enterprises (SME) sector.
SME companies will get production based incentives under the proposed policy. However, the onus of acquiring land will remain with companies wanting to set up units.
Companies which already have set up mega projects in the State are unlikely to be given any new incentives. However, they could get some incentives for project expansions.
The final draft of the new industrial policy is being reviewed by the Chief Minister, Mr Prithviraj Chavan.
The present policy was formulated in 2006. It gave emphasis on balanced regional development and employment generation through public private partnership for infrastructure projects.
