A new station to be built in INA in Phase III of Delhi Metro will act as a major interchange hub of South Delhi providing connectivity between Jahangirpui-HUDA City Centre and Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar Metro corridors.
The new station will be adjacent to the existing operational INA Metro Station. At present, the existing station provides Metro connectivity to three major shopping attractions Sarojini Nagar, INA Market and Delhi Haat.
Delhi Metro said the new station will help in improving the connectivity of residents from North, West and East Delhi localities such as Mukundpur, Rajouri Garden and Mayur Vihar.
Students travelling between the North and South campuses of the University of Delhi (DU) will also be able to commute by the Metro by using INA as an interchange station, a Delhi Metro spokesperson said.
The residential areas of Sarojini Nagar and Laxmi Bai Nagar will also be benefited from the new station as the new facility will provide connectivity to all parts of Delhi.
“This Metro station is going to be unique as the platform will be constructed above the concourse for the first time in Delhi Metro because of the height variation between the existing INA Station and the upcoming new INA Station owing to the already existing Metro tunnel at the location.
“The DMRC has modified the station design to adjust to the new circumstances. The station will have five entry and exit points with three of them being planned for the new INA Phase III Metro Station,” the spokesperson said.
As per the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the interchange load of this new station will be 1,29,881 in 2016 on a daily basis. At present, the daily footfall of the operational INA Metro Station is around 37,000.
