‘Not enough proof against son of VS'

Press Trust of India Updated - April 13, 2012 at 07:36 PM.

The Kerala High Court was today informed by the vigilance department that material gathered at this stage was not sufficient to register a case against Mr V.A. Arun Kumar, son of former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The charge against Arun Kumar was that he had allegedly received Rs 70 lakh from self-styled godman Santosh Madhavan for allowing conversion of paddy fields in Vadayar area here.

Madhavan had also entered into agreement with many landowners of Vadayar area for purchasing their wetlands.

SP (Vigilance) P. Radhakrishnan in his report to the court requested permission to proceed with the ongoing inquiry to collect further material to decide the future course of action.

The report was filed on a petition by Advocate K. Raju, who complained that the charge by Santosh Madhavan of having paid money to Arun Kumar had not been properly enquired into.

The SP said Santosh Madhavan had given a full-fledged statement to vigilance when he was in jail.
