Opposition members in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly today stalled the proceedings demanding the resignation of six Cabinet ministers on moral grounds following a Supreme Court directive to the CBI to issue notices.
The apex court had directed notices to gather evidence from them and eight senior bureaucrats in the State in connection with the disproportionate assets case against Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, MP and President of YSR Party and son of late Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
The House was adjourned without taking up the debate on the power situation in the State, which has been the major cause for concern for all sections of consumers — domestic, farm sector and industrial.
The Opposition members of the TDP and Left parties were steadfast demanding immediate action against the ministers.
Mr Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu, TDP member, raised the issue when the House assembled after a tea break.
He said six ministers now directed to be probed held important portfolios and they were responsible for taking decisions during the regime of late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
He said the apex court has directed notices against Ms J. Geetha Reddy, Minister for Major Industries; Ms Sabitha Reddy (Home); Mr D. Prasada Rao (Roads and Buildings); Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah (IT); Mr Mopidevi Venkataramana (Excise); and Mr Kanna Lakshminarayna (Agriculture).
The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, intervened to state, “we are yet to get full details of the case and the orders passed by the Supreme Court. We will study them and assess its implications before any follow up action.”
The Minister for Revenue, Mr Raghuveera Reddy, faulted the Opposition for stalling the proceedings and said decisions made were collective responsibility and they would not appeal against the court directive.
