Prime Minister Narendra Modi will leave for a three-nation tour on June 24 during which he will visit Portugal, the US and The Netherlands to boost bilateral ties.
On June 24, Modi will be leaving for Portugal and meet their Prime Minister Antonio Costa on the same day, who had visited India in January.
Costa, who traces his roots to Goa, was also the chief guest at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. During his meeting with Modi then, both sides had decided to expand and deepen trade and investment ties for which a Joint Economic Committee was also set up.
India and Portugal have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation. Both the leaders welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding signed during the visit, as a framework for promoting closer cooperation between the two countries in wind, solar and hydro-electricity sectors.
On June 26, Modi will head to the US where he will be meeting President Donald Trump for the first time in Washington DC.
“This meeting will provide further direction and a new dimension to the India-US ties, setting new priorities and consolidating the gains achieved so far,” Gopal Baglay, Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs, said here on Friday.
Baglay also said all bilateral issues will be discussed between both the leaders.
After wrapping up his US visit, the Prime Minister will leave for The Netherlands on June 27 where he will meet the Dutch leadership with a primary focus on trade and economic issues.
The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte had visited India in June 2015. The Netherlands is India’s fifth largest foreign investor investing $11.71 billion from April 2000-March 2017.
