The Annual Plan for 2012-13 for Rajasthan was finalised at Rs 33,500 crore here on Wednesday. The Plan size was fixed following a meeting between the Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Mr Ashok Gehlot.
Mr Ahluwalia said the State had realised over 100 per cent in Plan realisation. Between 2004-05 and 2009-10, Rajasthan had raised 42.8 lakh people above poverty line registering a decline of 9.6 per cent. He said against the total national decline of below poverty line population by 5 crore, Rajasthan accounts for 8.6 per cent.
Calling for legislative measure for water regulation, Mr Ahluwalia said the Planning Commission would focus on water management during the 12th Plan period and proposed a meeting of Chief Ministers in this regard.
Briefing the Commission, the Chief Minister, Mr Gehlot, said tax revenue in the State had grown by 26.46 per cent in 2010-11. He said the fiscal deficit has been brought down to 2.20 in 2011-12.
He said the State has put before it 13 targets for the next Plan, which include removing imbalance between water demand and availability, improving employment opportunities and infrastructure deficit. aditi.n@thehindu.co.in
