Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, has assured the Japanese Ambassador, Akitaka Saiki that the safety of Japanese investments will be ensured by the State administration as top priority.

Hooda said that after the violence at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar facility on July 18, about 550 police personnel and officers have been stationed in the industrial region.

The State government will also provide personal security if needed, Hooda said, according to an official statement. He added that a Special Investigation Team has been constituted to investigate the incident.

Till now, about 118 people have been arrested in connection with the clash, which includes 12 union leaders from the plant.

Meanwhile, the Japanese Ambassador expressed hope that Haryana will continue to send out a strong message to restore investor confidence, particularly of the Japanese companies.

“The CM gave reassurance that the State will strive to meet the expectation of the Japanese community to ensure its well-being and security,” a statement from the Japanese Embassy said.

In fact, Hooda had also recently written a letter to the Ambassador in which he had informed about the various steps taken by the State government to maintain industrial harmony.

Interestingly, close on the heels of the Maruti clash, another Japanese auto company at Manesar – Honda — has also suspended two employees. Though the workers haven’t yet planned a strike, they are demanding the reinstatement of their colleagues.
