Do not behave like a UPA-III — that was the advice given to the Narendra Modi Government by certain Sangh Parivar organisations recently.
In an informal meeting with the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, here last week, leaders of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, Kisan Sangh and the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, exchanged a number of proposals on reviving the economy.
These include opposition to foreign direct investment (FDI) in defence and Railways.
The leaders who attended the meeting said it was informal, but said they will ensure that the Government acts in the interest of the public. “It was an informal meeting. There was no agenda for discussions. People in the Sangh Parivar who are interested in the development of the economy keep meeting. There is nothing significant in it,” BMS General Secretary, Virjesh Upadhyay, told
The veteran trade union leader added, “the working class in the country wanted a regime change. We have high hopes on the Narendra Modi Government.
The 10-point charter of the central trade unions is with the Centre. We will see how the new Government is going to deal with it. If they are taking anti-worker decisions, we will not hesitate to hit the streets and organise protests,” Upadhyay said.
Another leader, who is aware of the development and wished not to be quoted, said many proposals, including cutting down the subsidies given to corporate houses, were discussed in the meeting.
He said the onus of working as the opposition was on the Sangh Parivar organisations such as the BMS and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
