The West Bengal government will table the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Bill 2011 in the State Assembly tomorrow to reclaim 400 acres of land, out of the existing 997-acre lease holding of Tata Motors for its abandoned Nano project at Singur, and distribute the same to the disgruntled farmers.
The first assembly session of the newly formed government that began with the customary Governor's address began today.
On June 10, the Chief Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, said that the State government would bring in a Bill instead of its earlier decision to promulgate an Ordinance to take back the land. The Assembly session was also advanced from June 24 to June 13 for tabling the Bill.
According to Ms Banerjee, the 400 acres will be returned to “unwilling farmers” and the remaining nearly 600 acres will be left for the industry.
