Shortage of staff is affecting the functioning of Prasar Bharati, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, said on Tuesday. Responding to a query in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State in the I&B Ministry C.M. Jatua said, “There are approximately 8,469 posts vacant in All India Radio and 5,753 vacant posts in Doordarshan in various categories. These vacancies have arisen due to retirement, resignation and death of staff.”

The Minister said the vacancies of direct recruitment, especially in Group A have remained unfilled since the establishment of Prasar Bharati as an autonomous corporation in 1997. The Ministry also said that setting up of Prasar Bharati Recruitment Board for recruiting employees was under inter-ministerial consultation and recruitments would begin as soon as the proposal was approved.
