With incidence of cancer on the rise, the Tamil Nadu Government today said it will put in place a State Cancer Registry to collect details of all such cases and proposed setting up two cancer care centres at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore.
“The incidence of cancer as a disease has gradually been increasing and it has become a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the State. A State Cancer Registry to collect details of all cancer cases will be put in place from this year,” the Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr V.S. Vijay, said.
Replying to the demand for grants for his department in the Assembly, he proposed setting up two Regional Cancer Centres at Madurai and Coimbatore at an investment of Rs 15 crore each.
