The political situation in Andhra Pradesh appears headed for a turbulent phase, with nearly 100 legislators from the Telangana region submitting their resignation. Life in the region was also paralysed on Tuesday as a total bandh was observed in the 10 districts.
The resignation of 11 MLAs of the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS), two of the BJP and four of the CPI on Tuesday added to the spate of resignations on Monday. A total of 81 legislators belonging to the Congress (I) and the Telugu Desam Party have quit in the last two days.
The Telangana region has 119 of the 294 members in the AP Legislative Assembly. In New Delhi, the Cong(I) MPs who had quit are in discussion with the representatives of the party high-command and pressing for a separate Telangana State.
On Tuesday, the TRS Chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhara Rao, and Ms Vijayasanthi also faxed their resignations.
