Resignations by 74 legislators and 10 MPs from the ruling Congress (I), the Telugu Desam Party and the erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) in Andhra Pradesh has once again catapulted the Telangana issue onto the centre-stage.
All these people's representatives belong to the Telangana region. While the MPs submitted their resignations to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Ms Meira Kumar, in New Delhi, the legislators sent in their letters to the Deputy Speaker of the AP Assembly.
There was hectic activity at the office of the Chief Minister, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Telangana Rastra Samithi Chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, and some of the Congress (I) leaders here on the developments and future course of action.
In New Delhi, the Home Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, stated that the Telangana issue was sensitive and needed wider consultations with political parties before a view is taken.
