TN to procure 3,000 new buses

In the first phase, the State Government will purchase 520 new vehicles at a cost of Rs 75 crore.

The Tamil Nadu Government plans to procure 3,000 new buses at a cost of Rs 435 crore.

In the first phase, it will purchase 520 new vehicles at a cost of Rs 75 crore, according to a State Government press release.

Tamil Nadu has a fleet strength of 21,169 buses, which carry 2.10 crore passengers daily within the State and to other southern States. In Chennai city alone, 55 lakh passengers use Government buses every day.

The Government plans to replace those buses that are over six years old or those that have run over 7 lakh km, the release says.
