The Tamil Nadu Government has asked the Centre to allocate the entire power from the proposed Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant to the State.
The Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, has written to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to allocate the entire 2,000 MW from the plant. Tamil Nadu’s share is now 925 MW.
In the letter, a copy of which was released to the media, the Chief Minister has said that Tamil Nadu had requested an allocation of 1,000 MW from the Central Pool last year but only 100 MW was made available to the State.
Due to the severe power shortage in the State and the constraints in transmission infrastructure which prevent Tamil Nadu from accessing power from elsewhere, it would be ‘proper and justifiable’ that all the power is allocated to the State, the Chief Minister said.
