Pro-Telangana political parties in Andhra Pradesh have taken strong exception to Prime Minister Mr Manmohan Singh's statement on separate Statehood for Telangana.
Mr Manmohan Singh on Saturday said that the Telangana issue could not be solved by agreeing to a separate State while there were disturbances and unrest in other parts, and that there had to be consensus (on the issue).
“We fully condemn the Prime Minister's comments. This is totally unfair. They refuse to see the truth and democratic aspirations of the people,” Mr K T Rama Rao, Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA and its chief, Mr K Chandrasekhar Rao's son said in a statement on Sunday.
Accusing the Congress of complicating the Telangana issue, he said the Bill for the formation of a separate Telangana could be passed in the Parliament as the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party had already pledged its support to the demand.
Mr Vidyasagar Rao, Senior BJP leader told newspersons that the remarks of Mr Singh would hurt the sentiment of people in the Telangana region.
“The UPA Government will never give separate statehood to Telangana,” he said.
The Congress leaders, however, maintained that Mr Singh's statement was in the right spirit. “Telangana State cannot be created mere by emotions,” Primary Education Minister, Mr Sake Sailajanath said.
