The Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal of the Union Minister of Shipping, Mr G.K. Vasan, to rename the Tuticorin Port Trust (TPT) as V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust to honour the memory of Chidambaranar, who established the first passenger ferry service between Tuticorin and Colombo. Mr Vasan said the Government's decision to rename the port was a fitting tribute to Chidambaranar, and a grand function will be held soon to mark the occasion, according to a press release from TPT.
