The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr Akhilesh Yadav, on Tuesday asked officials to blacklist companies supplying poor quality power transformers and meters. “The companies involved in supplying poor quality transformers and meters should be blacklisted. Also, strict action should be initiated against officers involved in their verification”, Mr Yadav said, addressing a meeting to review the power scenario in the State. The Chief Minister also directed the officers to install such meters on feeders through which consumers could get information about time of power supply and asked them to visit States where such techniques are in place.
About line loss, Mr Yadav said pre-paid meters should be installed, if possible, in areas where feeders have huge line loss. The Managing Director and Chairman of UP Power Corporation, Mr Avnish Awasthi, said the process to blacklist 14 companies involved in poor transformer supply was underway and two officers involved in verification work have been suspended. The CM also directed officers to improve power distribution.
