Connecting with people: P. Chidambaram, Finance Minister

Finance Minister P. Chidambaram will respond to citizens’ questions about the Budget, and discuss the state of the Indian economy with a panel of thought leaders as well as citizens on March 4 through Google Plus Hangout.

This will be a first ever initiative that will provide an opportunity for citizens to discuss the Budget along with thought leaders by joining the multiparty video conference on Google Plus.

The Finance Minister will be joined by a group of panelists from Indian and international companies including Jahangir Aziz, Senior Asia Economist and India Chief Economist, JP Morgan; Anand Mahindra, Chairman and Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra; and Amit Singhal, Senior Vice-President, Google Inc.

Google Hangout was earlier used by the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on August 31, during his election campaign, whose show was hosted by Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn.

Over 20,000 questions were received from various parts of the world through mediums, including Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Modi’s Web site and special kiosks set up by Google in that event.

Similar event will take place at 8 p.m. on March 4, when Chidambaram and others, will discuss various issues on the Indian economy.

Citizens will also be able to watch the special budget Google Hangout ‘Live’ through the Google India Page at >google.com / >+GoogleIndia or on the IN Conversation YouTube channel.

Before the Hangout, citizens can submit their questions to Chidambaram either by uploading a video or commenting on the YouTube channel, or through the Google India Page and tagging text or a video with the hashtag #askthefm.
