The Power Ministry wants Coal India to take a relook at the coal sampling mechanism.
The Ministry is in talks with Coal Ministry on the issue, Minister of Power for State, Jyotiraditya Scindia, said.
This move is seen as a fallout of repeated complaints from public sector power producer NTPC that Coal India is supplying low quality fuel.
NTPC Chairman and Managing Director, Arup Roy Choudhary, said that nearly 3-4 units of the power producer are getting coal which is below the specified standards.
"We have raised the issue," he added.
Currently, Coal India tests the quality of coal in its laboratory and categorise it to different grades. Every grade of coal is priced differently.
The Power Minister said that the immediate priority is to ensure fuel linkages for the power sector.
"Pooling of coal and fuel prices as pass-through is being deliberated. It is essential to ensure that generation remains on track, and linkages are in place," Scindia told media persons.
Power Ministry is in discussions with counterparts in coal and MoEF to sort of issues of clearances, sampling and pricing.
