The Australian government has invited the West Asia-based Nasser S. Al Hajri Corporation (NSH) to establish business in the LNG and mining sectors.

NSH is the flagship company of the RP group of companies, and has a work force of more than 65,000 in the GCC countries. They have acute shortage of skilled manpower having experience in LNG and mining operations.

AUSTRALIAN PRESENCE

NSH will open its office in Perth, Australia, on July 5, Dr Ravi Pillai, managing director, said here. Gradually, operations will be expanded to other locations such as Queensland, Brisbane, and Melbourne.

NSH also proposes to start industrial construction business in India with base in Mumbai, he said.

NSH has already set up two companies in Australia. The first is the NaSAH Australia Pty Ltd, which will provide industrial service for LNG and mining projects in Australia.

The second is the OGM Technical Institute Pty Ltd, which will work jointly with recognised Australian technical and further education institutions (TAFE).

TRAINING FACILITY

The aim is to train, assess, certify and provide skilled workers to ensure availability of superior skilled labour workforce to deliver projects in Australia, Dr Pillai said.

“As per Australian government rules, we have to employ the maximum number of locals. But there is acute shortage of availability of skilled people in Australia. This opens up opportunities for Indians,” he said.

Initially, those working in West Asia with experience in the field will be selected. Workers will also be sourced from other countries after they undergo training.

TRAINING CENTRES

For this, OGM will open TAFE training centres in Kerala, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi and Mumbai. This will help Indian aspirants on a long-term basis.

Salary and other perks of the technical staff are quite attractive in Australia and immigrant workers can earn approximately Rs 25 to 50 lakh or above a year, depending upon their qualification and experience.

Immigrant workers may also get Australian nationality after two years’ service.

Dr Pillai also announced that cricketer Steve Waugh will be the company’s brand ambassador for operations in Australia.
