Retail inflation for agricultural eased to 12.65 per cent in October from 12.78 per cent in the previous month, while for rural workers it increased to 12.48 per cent from 12.44 per cent in September.
“Point to point rate of inflation based on the Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Labourers (CPI-AL) decreased from 12.78 per cent to 12.65 per cent in October, 2013 while for Consumer Price Index Rural Labourers (CPI-RL) increased from 12.44 per cent to 12.48 per cent in October, 2013,” an official statement said today.
Inflation based on food index of CPI-AL and CPI-RL are 13.62 per cent and 13.11 per cent respectively during October, 2013, it added.
The statement further said that the rise or fall in index varied from state to state.
In case of agricultural labourers, it recorded an increase which varied between 2 to 17 points in 18 states and a decrease of 1 and 4 points in two states.
Haryana with 846 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 616 points stood at the bottom, it said.
In case of rural labourers, it recorded an increase between 2 points and 16 points in 18 states, a decrease of two points in one state and remained stationary in one state.
Haryana with 840 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh state with the index level of 651 points stood at the bottom.
Agricultural labourers index for Tripura registered the maximum increase of 17 points while rural labourers index for Gujarat and Orissa states registered the maximum increase of 16 points each mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, wheat atta, fish, onion, vegetables and fruits and bus fare.
On the other hand, Maharashtra registered a decline of 4 and 2 points, respectively for agricultural and rural labourers mainly due to decrease in the prices of wheat, jowar, bajra, groundnut oil and fish, it said.
