Industrial growth steady

Retail inflation is on the rise as Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of May reached at 4.87 per cent as against 4.58 per cent in April. However, the good news is that industry saw another month of good progress in April as it grew by 4.9 per cent as against 4.6 per cent in March.

Costly fruits and vegetables pushed the retail inflation higher which was also fuelled by petrol and diesel.

At the same time prices of pulses and sugar still going down, but these were not enough to stop the retail food inflation to go up to 3.10 per cent in May as against 2.80 per cent in April
