A 765 Kv switchyard has been commissioned in Reliance Power’s 4000 MW project at Sasan in Madhya Pradesh. The power generated at the plant will be supplied through six transmission lines to Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.

A senior Reliance Power official said the company commissioned a 400 Kv switchyard last September to draw start-up power for the first of the six 660 MW units. The 400 Kv yard would be in reserve and all evacuation from the plant would be done through the 765 Kv yard.

The charging of the switchyard was achieved in less than 14 months. The switchyard is a modern power evacuation system that cuts losses while ensuring high capacity power transmission. Charging of the switchyard is an important milestone in power projects, he said.

The first 660MW unit is expected to be commissioned this quarter. The remaining units will be commissioned at three-month intervals thereafter.

Coal production from the Moher and Moher-Amlohri mines, which were allocated to the plant, has begun.
