Senior IRS officer P.S. Behuria has been appointed as the new Member in the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the administrative body for collection of direct taxes in the country.
Parvinder Sohi Behuria, a 1977 Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) officer, is expected to hold the charge of Personnel in the seven-member CBDT, the nodal authority of the Income-Tax department.
The post of Member (Personnel) fell vacant following retirement of S.S. Rana on March 31.
Previously, Behuria served as the Secretary of Public Enterprises Selection Board under the Personnel and Training Ministry.
Behuria, who has spent close to three decades in the direct taxes administration, is credited to have brought the Permanent Account Number regime in the Income-Tax department.
Her husband, senior IAS officer Sutanu Behuria is currently Secretary in the Heavy Industries ministry.
The CBDT is a seven-member body headed by a Chairperson under the Finance ministry.
