Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma has been appointed as Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). He will be the 12th CAG of India.
Sharma, an IAS officer, will assume charge on May 23, an official release said.
Vinod Rai, the incumbent CAG, demits office on Wednesday on attaining the age of 65. Rai had been the 11th CAG of India.
His five-and-a-half years tenure in office was very eventful one with several controversies including the reports on 2G spectrum allocation, hydro-carbon production sharing contracts, implementation of Public Private Partnership in Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi and Commonwealth Games.
