Shashi Kant Sharma was on Thursday sworn in as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).
President Pranab Mukherjee administered him the oath of office and secrecy in the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The 61-year old Sharma, a 1976 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Bihar cadre, later assumed charge of the Constitutional post at the CAG office. He will have tenure up to September 24, 2017, an official release said.
Sharma has wide experience in the fields of public administration, financial services and infrastructure development.
He did M.Sc in Administrative Science and Development Problems, University of York, UK, and M.A. in political Science from Agra University.
Prior to becoming CAG, Sharma was Defence Secretary. He had also earlier served as Secretary in the Department of Financial Services.
