Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will chair a meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council here today.

The Eastern Zonal Council comprises West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar.

The Eastern Zonal Council is one of the five councils that were created with the objective of developing cooperation among States and also to provide a common meeting ground for solving inter-State problems.

Proposed agenda

According to an official at the West Bengal Secretariat, the proposed agenda for today’s meeting include issues relating to safety on national highways, issues relating to internal security, communal harmony and allotment of land to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for establishing battalion camping sites.

Police administration and taking up border area development programme are also expected to figure in today’s meeting.

Chief Ministers of all States, Governor of Jharkhand and other State-level ministers, who are members of the council, are expected to take part in the meeting.

The meeting is likely to take place at 12 noon at the Town Hall premises in Kolkata.
