The Union Telecom Minister, Mr Kapil Sibal, on Monday said that action would be taken against the telecom operators who have been violating 3G spectrum licences.

Referring to the 3G roaming agreement among the three telecom companies – Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar and Idea Cellular – Mr Sibal said, “We have already said that the telecom operators have violated their licences and action will be taken in accordance with that.”

The Minister was speaking to the media on the sidelines of 47th annual convocation of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta here today.

The three telecom majors had reportedly entered into an agreement to share 3G roaming network in their respective circles on pan-India basis.

The Department of Telecom (DoT) had sought the Law Ministry's intervention in the case citing such agreement for sharing spectrum was against the terms and condition of telecom licences.

IIM-C Convocation

The country is in need of leaders, Mr Sibal said, addressing the 2012 graduating batch of IIM-C. “We have an incredible dearth of leadership in polity, governance and major financial institutions,” he pointed out.

A total of 438 students graduated in various disciplines from the institute this year.
