A stable fibre policy; reduction in hank yarn obligation from 40 per cent to 20 per cent for the betterment of the spinning sector; and provision of Technology Upgradation Fund (TUF) scheme for the left period (between June 28, 2010 and April 27, 2011), were the three main demands of the small spinners from in and around Coimbatore.

They placed their demands before the Union Minister for Textiles Kavuru Sambasiva Rao here this morning, urging him to consider their plea.

K. Thirunavukkarasu, President of the South India Small Spinners Association, in his request, stressed the need for a stable fibre policy. “Only a stable raw material policy would protect the interest of the agriculturists and the industry as well, as it would ensure regulated supply of quality material at reasonable price,” he said.
