PAN-CITY INITIATIVES
Estimated Cost ₹143 cr
Given the high density of traffic and congestion – and not just during peak hours – the Corporation plans to implement a state-of-the-art CCTV surveillance and traffic monitoring system along with LED street lighting and air-quality monitoring. There are also plans for an ICT-enabled command centre capable of coordinating with emergency response forces, city surveillance and so on. Yet another initiative envisages waste-water recycling and smart metering, creation of WiFi hotspots at 10 locations, 24x7 water supply, and construction of 6,000 toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
AREA-BASED DEVELOPMENT
Estimated Cost ₹1,427 cr
The Corporation has plans for a transformative retrofit development of some 4,200 acres in central Coimbatore. This envisages development of an eight-lake network to restore it to health, reinforce its flood management capacity and create life-spaces, with lake-front habitats. There are also plans to create a 30-km non-motorised corridor with dedicated biking/walking tracks. Other area-based smart solutions centre around modernisation of children parks in 74 locations, and creation of Global Centres of Excellence for cutting-edge research in light engineering and textiles.
