India's steel output for the first nine months of calendar 2011 grew 5.3 per cent to 53.9 million tonnes, according to World Steel Association. Steel production stood at 51.17 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year.
In its latest estimates, WSA said steel production in India grew 5.2 per cent to 5.9 million tonnes in September 2011 as against 5.65 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year.
The world steel output grew 8.2 per cent in the first nine months at 1.13 billion tonnes as against 1.04 billion tonnes in the corresponding period last year. Production in China grew 10.7 per cent to 525 million tonnes as against 474 million tonnes in the corresponding period last period.
