The Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS) has contributed 33 per cent of the total atomic power generated in the country in the first quarter, a TAPS release said here today.
Since its commissioning, TAPS has generated 1,21,141 MUs (million units) of power till June 2012.
The plant, located in the western part of Thane district, has generated 2,780 MUs during April-June this year, while the country’s total atomic power generation from all the stations totalled up to 8,412 MUs.
In June alone, TAPS units generated about 1,000 MUs of power. However, the contribution of TAPS to the national atomic power generation has declined over the last few years.
It contributed 42.25 per cent power in 2008-09, 42.43 per cent in 2009-10, 34.45 per cent in 2010-11 and 30.23 per cent in 2011-12, the release said.
The cumulative power generation of Unit 1 was 42,406 MUs, Unit 2 42,991 MUs, Unit 3 18,097 MUs and Unit 4 17,647 MUs.
The country’s total power generation of all the atomic power plants stood at 32,455 MUs in 2011-12, 26,473 MUs in 2010-11, 10,831 MUs in 2009-10 and 14,927 MUs in 2008-09.
There has been a growth of 117.42 per cent power generation in the country since 2008-09, the report indicated.
Compared to last year, the TAPS units have completed a total generation of 28.32 per cent power in the first quarter, the release said.
