For the first time after the GST rollout, tax professionals and consultants will come under one roof to discuss and deliberate on the unsolved issues of the new tax regime.
Over 200 such tax professionals of about 40 local, State-level and national tax associations from across India will meet on July 14 and 15 in Ahmedabad to prepare for national representation on common trouble points of the GST.
The two-day meeting will discuss issues such as invoice matching, input tax credit claims, refunds and audit, among others. “After discussing with representatives of all State-level bodies of tax consultants, we will prepare a common agenda to raise it with the Centre. As the next GST Council meet is due soon and the Parliament session is also set to begin in a few days, we plan to raise these unsolved issues with the government for early resolution,” said Varis Isani, a tax professional and organiser of the conclave in Ahmedabad.
According to tax professionals, after a year of the rollout of the new tax system, key issues remain with regard to returns, refunds and recommendations. “Tax professionals had a miserable year in 2017-18 overcoming hardships in return filing. There are certain basic challenges with regard to technology and systems. With this effort we hope to draw the attention of the authorities to these challenges,” said Nigam Shah, former President of Gujarat Sales Tax Bar Association.
Representatives from about 40 of the local, state and national-level associations will take part in the conclave. Efforts are also being made to create a unified programme to educate tax professionals with the changing regulatory requirements.
