The Asian Development Bank has a new Country Director for India in Teresa Kho.
Kho, who assumed charge as Country Director for India on Monday, was previously heading the Bangladesh Resident Mission of ADB.
She replaces Hun Kim, who is now Deputy Director General of ADB's South Asia Department in Manila.
“India is one of the ADB’s most important clients. For ADB, it has been a privilege to partner with the Indian Government and support the Government’s development agenda. I look forward to working closely with the Government to take this partnership forward,” Kho said in a statement..
Since joining ADB as an Investment Officer in the Private Sector Operations Department (PSOD) in 1997, Kho has worked in various capacities in the organisation, including as Director of Urban Development and Water Division of South Asia Department.
She has handled the planning, processing and implementation of diverse operations in the urban sector in India covering water, wastewater, waste management and urban transport spread across several states.
Prior to joining ADB, Kho spent 12 years in the US private sector performing various functions for large companies like General Electric, Sun Microsystems, and Raychem.
On ADB’s operations in India, Kho said that these would continue to be guided by the ADB’s Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for India.
“The new CPS for 2013-17 supports the Government’s vision of faster, more inclusive, and sustainable growth by emphasising robust infrastructure development; job creation and access to jobs; regional connectivity; and environmental sustainability,” she added.
