The Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) on Monday requested Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms Jayalalithaa to exempt them from power holiday on Fridays, as the member units are not functioning on Sundays in the region.
In a letter to Ms Jayalalithaa, a copy of which was released to the press, TEA President Mr A Shaktivel said apart from power holiday for Tirupur region on Friday, the exporting units in the town and surrounding area could not be run on Sunday also.
It would be really difficult for the exporting units to run on captive Power using generator to meet the delivery schedule besides meeting the additional cost.
The competitiveness would be fully eroded at a time when the exporting units have been already facing problems such as decline of demand from European Union and US due to various reasons, he said.
