Knitwear exports from the hosiery town of Tirupur have clocked Rs 15,000 crore in the first nine months of this financial year, with the industry body confident of achieving the target of Rs 21,000 crore for the fiscal.
During April-December of 2014, knitwear worth Rs 15,000 crore were exported, a growth of 19 per cent and 18 per cent in rupee and dollar terms respectively, compared to the corresponding period in 2013-14, Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) President A Shaktivel said today.
The figures had been arrived after consolidating the available bank-wise exports data, he said in a statement.
Exports during the last financial year was worth Rs 18,000 crore.
Shaktivel expressed hope that exports from Tirupur would cross Rs 21,000 crore in 2014-15 with the same growth trend and could touch Rs 36,000 crore in 2016-17.
