The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has hailed the decision of the Madurai Corporation to regulate property tax and implement the same from next year.
In a statement here, the Chamber, thanking the Mayor said that the Madurai Corporation had earlier ignored the guidelines and orders issued by the Tamil Nadu Government and enforced a very steep, anomalous and abnormal property tax hike in 2008. The office-bearers of the Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry met the Mayor, Mr V.V. Rajan Chellappa, and requested him to opt for an immediate fresh revision and refix property tax at reasonable level in Madurai.
The Mayorhad passed a resolution in the Council Meeting on Wednesday for a resurvey on the classification of the areas in all the 100 wards of the expanded Madurai Corporation and implement the new tax with effect from April 2012.
