Tripura's annual Plan outlay for 2011-12 was fixed at Rs 1,950 crore at a meeting between the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the State Chief Minister, Mr Manik Sarkar, here today.
Mr Ahluwalia complimented the State government for empowering panchayati raj institutions, anganwadis, and the performance in the Integrated Child Development Scheme.
He said the State needed to create an investment-friendly environment to encourage private investment in the development of both physical and social infrastructure.
Mr Ahluwalia said the Commission was in the process of finalising approach to the Twelfth Plan and would welcome suggestions from the State on social sector programmes initiated by the Centre to make these programmes more effective.
Earlier, Mr Sarkar briefed the Commission about the new fiscal initiatives taken by the State to improve resources and reduce developmental expenditure. He said the tax revenue situation has improved and salary expenditure had been controlled.
He said skill development and vocational education was being given priority. A skill development mission had been constituted and one ITI was proposed to be set up in each sub-division.
