The issue of reported resignation of the Railway Minister, Mr Dinesh Trivedi, today rocked the Rajya Sabha with the Opposition demanding a statement from the Government on it, forcing the Chairman, Mr Hamid Ansari, to adjourn the House till noon.
The matter was raised vociferously with the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Arun Jaitley, describing the situation as “unprecedented’’.
“This is an unprecedented position. Minister after ministers are resigning. We want to know what is the position of the Railway Budget,” he said.
Amid din, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Rajiv Shukla, said: “The Prime Minister has not received any resignation from the Railway Minister.”
He said the Prime Minister has received a communication from the Trinamool Congress chief, Ms Mamata Banerjee, and any decision taken will be conveyed to the House.
Mr Shukla’s statement, however, failed to pacify the Opposition with BJP members raising slogans “Mamata ki chali rail — sarkar ho gayee fail.”
The Chairman then adjourned the House till noon.
