The United Nations Secretary-General, Mr Ban Ki-moon, is expected to visit Australia next month after his tour to the region for the Pacific Islands Forum meeting in New Zealand.
Mr Ban will brief the Prime Minister, Ms Julia Gillard, and the Foreign Minister, Mr Kevin Rudd, on international security, development and climate change issues, ABC reported today.
He will also discuss the unfolding developments in the Middle East and North Africa.
Mr Ban will be the first UN chief to attend the meeting of Pacific Islands Forum in New Zealand.
