Oil marketing companies will be incurring a loss of ₹ 5.11 a litre in February for selling PDS kerosene at less than market rates, according to the latest analysis by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell.
This has come down from ₹ 9.16 a litre in January. Prices of the product are controlled by the government. The analysis by the PPAC is based on the international prices oil and petroleum products for the month of January 2016.
PPAC also estimates that cash transfer under the direct benefit transfer of LPG (DBTL) scheme will be ₹ 155.78 per cylinder during February 2016. Out of this ₹ 108.12 will be from the government and ₹ 47.66 will be from the oil marketing companies due to "uncompensated costs'' to consumers.
The under-recoveries for 2014-15 have been ₹ 72,314 crore, an official statement of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. The figure was ₹ 1,39,869 crore for 2013-14.
