The Uttar Pradesh government said it would develop a new industrial policy on the lines of Uttrakhand to promote the small industries in the State and a special scheme for Bundelkhand.

“To promote small industries in the State a new policy will be chalked out on the lines of Uttrakhand,” the State Minister for Small Industries and Export Promotion (Independent Charge), Mr Bhagwat Sharan Gangwar, told reporters here.

He said a special scheme would be chalked out to set up small industries in ravines of Etawah, Bundelkhand and Poorvanchal regions of the State.

He said that there was a scheme to reopen closed industries. The intention of the SP government is to provide employment to maximum number of people and that is possible only by setting up small industries, he added.

Mr Gangwar said that while special schemes would be prepared for Bundelkhand and Poorvanchal, a policy would be formulated to promote cane, wood, bamboo and mentha industries in western districts of the State.

The Minister said that to ensure that small industrialists earn better profits, besides developing clusters, proper distribution would also be ensured.

He said that to attract big industrial houses for investment in Bareilly division, a proposal to construct an airport was being contemplated. Talks will be held with the Civil Aviation Ministry by the Chief Minister in this regard, he said.

The Minister said that to create jobs, a new industrial area on 1,500 hectare land would be developed near the rubber factory in Bareilly.
