The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday filed an FIR to investigate the terror attack at the Army camp in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir even as it has sought technical help from the US for forensic examination.
“The NIA has registered the case to probe the Pakistan angle in it. Idea is to collect as much information as possible and convert them into credible evidence and forward them to Pakistan,” a top official told BusinessLine requesting anonymity.
So far eight terrorists have been killed in the Uri attacks, in which 18 soldiers were killed two days ago. About 20 terrorists are believed to have infiltrated through the border, according to sources. The total recoveries from the slain terrorists are four AK 47 rifles, four under-barrel grenade launchers, 39 grenades launchers, five hand-grenades, two radio sets, two GPSs, two map sheets, two matrix sheets, one mobile phone and a large number of food and medicine packets having Pakistani markings, according to Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Ranbir Singh.
The NIA has decided to send the GPS sets, one of which has been damaged during the attack, to American labs, sources said. Besides, the NIA will also be collecting DNA samples of the slain terrorists. Post the investigation, a dossier will be presented to the Pakistani authorities. “A probe is always important and crucial. Terrorists attacks are also a crime after all. So the legal part has to be gone through. But whether Pakistan cooperates in the investigation or not is a different question. We should present all the evidence to Pakistan and tell them to act,” said TCA Raghavan, Former High Commissioner of India to Pakistan.
