Close to 28 years after it pioneered the concept of serious, long format journalism in the country, Frontline , the news magazine from The Hindu Group, is all set to hit the stands in a revamped and contemporary format.

The Vice-President, M. Hamid Ansari, will release the first issue of the revamped Frontline at a function in New Delhi on September 20. Renowned historian Romila Thapar will receive the first copy.

“With its in-depth reportage and incisive analyses of contemporary events, the magazine has successfully promoted its own brand of long-form journalism of high quality at a time when the information overflow from multiple media is often found wanting in nuance and analysis. Its alternative perspectives and analysis of issues of development, economic policy and politics have earned it respect not only in India but at the international level as well,” said R. Vijaya Sankar, Editor, Frontline .

While the magazine will continue to retain its core strengths of in-depth reportage and analysis, “we are introducing some new features and columns to appeal to a wider readership. In its slightly altered form, the magazine will attempt to explore unchartered territories in terms of themes, issues and topics while making the magazine relevant and attractive to an increasing readership,” Vijaya Sankar added.

The launch function will be kicked off by N. Ram, former Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu and Frontline . L. K. Advani, Working Chairman, National Democratic Alliance; Prakash Karat, General Secretary, CPI (M); and Mulayam Singh Yadav, President, Samajwadi Party, will address the audience.

The launch will be followed by a debate on “The Indian Constitution’s Mandate: Whither Sovereignty, Socialism, Secularism and Democracy”. The panelists for the debate are CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury, All India Congress Committee General Secretary Digvijay Singh, and author Arun Shourie.

The debate will be moderated by N. Ram and will be followed by a brief question and answer session with the audience.
