PAN-CITY INITIATIVES
Estimated Cost: ₹150 Cr
Given the city’s susceptibility to climate change, it plans to combine effective e-governance with enhanced disaster management system. Specifically, it will establish an ICT-enabled command centre capable of coordinating early warning systems, emergency response forces, utilities, transportation, city surveillance, and citizen engagement platforms. There also plans to install collaborative platforms for ongoing citizen engagement to ensure that citizens are able to reach municipal service providers via multiple channels such as mobile application, web, contact center and social media.
AREA-BASED DEVELOPMENT
Estimated cost: ₹1,650 cr
Around 790 acres, including areas around RK Beach up to Waltair Main Road, have been identified for beautification for the benefit of residents and tourists alike. Other area-based smart solutions build upon the ongoing initiatives within the city, such as speed limit cap, vehicle-free zones, introduction of a bicycle highway along the beach road, 24x7 pollution monitoring for corrective action, transitioning from diesel autos to E-rickshaws over time, public bike sharing, smart signalling and traffic surveillance; solar-powered public toilets, and affordable housing units.
FUNDING OPTIONS
For the first phase budget of around ₹2,000 crore, funds will come in from the Centre (₹500 crore); the State government (₹500 crore); convergence of schemes (₹800 crore); and from the private sector under PPP projects (₹200 crore).
