The West Bengal government has received an extension of two years for completion of Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) projects sanctioned till March 2012. The projects include reforms under Urban Infrastructure and Governance (UIG) scheme by procuring buses sanctioned under the Economic Stimulus.
According to a recent Ministry of Urban Development letter, the state has been awarded an extension till 2013-14 for completion of 71 sanctioned projects.
“In West Bengal, we have 71 sanctioned projects under UIG of which 13 were sanctioned only a few months ago. So this extra time is a big relief,” according to a blog by Mr. Debashis Sen, principal secretary of state Urban Development Department, West Bengal.
“We were pressing for it since some time, and now we know that we will get a breather,” Mr Sen noted in his blog.
