Union Minister for Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises, Mr Virbhadra Singh, has inaugurated the Coir Board pavilion at the India International Trade Fair (IITF) - 2011 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
Spread over 200 sq metres in Hall No.1 of Pragati Maidan, the exhibition depicts the skill and craftsmanship of coir workers in producing a variety of handmade products and handicrafts like toy, ornaments etc. The range displayed at the pavilion include traditional coir products like handloom coir mat, mattings, carpets, coir geo-textiles, power-loom coir mattings from Hindustan Coir etc.
The research and development products from the two premier research institutes of the Coir Board such as Central Coir Research Institute at Kalavoor in Kerala and Central Institute of Coir Technology at Bangalore comprise diversified coir products like thin fabric made out of cotton and coir, coir pith organic manure, coir composite boards and modular kitchen cabinet out of composites, umbrellas and jackets made of coir.
Apart from Coir Board, Sree Agro Products, a leading coir pith exporter from Andhra Pradesh and Sarvodayapuram Small Scale Coir Society from Kerala are also exhibiting exquisite products at the Coir Board pavilion. .
The inaugural function of the Coir Board pavilion was attended by Coir Board Chairman Mr V.S. Vijayaraghavan; Secretary, Ministry of MSME, Mr R.K. Mathur; Joint Secretary, Mr Dinesh Singh; Joint Secretary, Ministry of MSME, Mr Amarendra Singh and Director (Marketing), Coir Board, Mr M. Kumaraswamy Pillai.
